OK, the St Louis Cardinals didn't win the World Series but they still had one heck of a year. As Anthony Castrovince wrote on mlb.com, "The St. Louis Cardinals won 97 games this season, surviving a division
battle that included two other postseason teams. They were, according to
the raw records resulting from the 162-game grind, the best team in the
National League." The Cards won 97 games in what could only be called a fist-fight of a season. Impressive by any measure.
